Bountiful Blessings in a Box
A very generous family has made it possible for Mike and Jeanette to ship a container of ministry items to the Philippines for their ministry on the island of Bohol. Kingdom Adventures has 1,000 cubic feet of space to fill. We're looking to fill it with these items:
- Towels and Linens: Village of Hope and Maranatha Bible College both will have many people to house. We'd like to take MANY, MANY, MANY sets of towels and linens.
- Used Shoes (for Adults and Children) and Perscription Glasses: We've often asked for these two items for the Philippines. These would mostly be thrown away (or kept and never used again) by most American houses, but they are of great value to Filipinos. Many Filipinos go through life without seeing well because a new pair of glasses could cost as much as a week's livelihood. Shoes are equally cost-prohibitive there. Your used shoes and glasses can make a world of difference in someone's life.
- Children's Picture, Reading, and Educational Books: Ultimately we plan on two-hundred children being cared for at Village of Hope. These kids will need books! We were recently asked if English books would be okay. Actually, making English available to the children will open new doors of opportunities to them for the rest of their lives.
- Camping Equipment: Tents, stoves, lanterns, and sleeping bags will be useful for multi-day ministry training sessions. One of Mike and Jean's goals is to train Filipino Christians to be more effective in their ministries.
- Lawn Mowers: We had originally listed this as something to be purchased in the Philippines on Mike and Jean's needs list, but, with a container, it would be possible to take a working gas lawn mower (or two) from the United States.
- Sewing Machines: Between Village of Hope with 200 kids, Maranatha Bible College, and just life in general, a few good, used sewing machines would be life-saving!
- Computers: We are considering opening a Computer Training Center for the children who live near Village of Hope to help the community. We are looking for working, used computers (Pentium 2 or later, please). Please be sure to call us before you send a computer.
- Empty Three-Ring Binders: We'll be developing a lot of curriculum, and these are very expensive in the Philippines!
- Any ideas? We know we don't know everything. You might have a great idea for something you'd like to send in the container. Call us and we'll discuss it with you!
used shoes from America!
of this! A lawn mower would
save an amazing ammount
of money and time!
Important Notes:
First, we plan to complete the container on Monday, April 25th. That means we need people to act fast! If you are going to send something, please contact us ahead of time to ensure room in the container and adequate time for your items to arrive in Southern California.
Secondly, we know there are lots of loving people out there who will read this list and want to go to Walmart and buy many things to send to us to ship to the Philippines. With the exception of the computers and lawn-mowers we suggest you don't do that. All of these items are available in the Philippines, most likely for less than what you would pay for them here. But, most American households have a closet full of shoes that will never be worn again, a cabinet full of towels and bedsheets that will never be used again, most likely a pair of glasses that don't work like they used to, and a tent in the garage that will never be slept in again. These are prime items for sending to the Philippines. If you're considering buying any of these items, consider letting us buy them for you at a lower price in the Philippines to free up valuable space in the shipping container.
